Jobs in Atlanta
Georgia
Never before has the job market been more
challenging and changing so fast. That change is mostly driven by the
globalization of our economy, the consequent consolidation of competition
within most industries and the effective integration of information
technology at all levels of the business world. The effect of these
changes on the job market and individual careers has been incredible.
As a more global economy is realized, many jobs are redistributed
worldwide. An impact on our job market includes the outsourcing of many
technical and professional job specialties and functions to other
countries where this work can be done at lower cost. Manufacturing,
technology and customer service careers (and many others) have been
greatly changed as a result. As these jobs are moved “off shore”, the
individuals displaced are driven to making career changes into new
industries doing different or similar job functions. For individuals to
re-career is often very difficult to accomplish without professional help.
With new technologies being deployed across all industries, the positive
impact on productivity has been exponential. In the last decade, companies
have recorded record gains in worker productivity at all levels. However,
this has also generated the foundation for eliminating millions of jobs
from various industries. These productivity gains on the part of companies
employing over 100 employees have led to the elimination of over 16 million
jobs over the last ten years, causing great instability on the part of
individuals trying to manage their careers. This has seriously affected
individuals at mid and senior level professional, managerial and technical
jobs. Many of these jobs are gone forever and those who have been
displaced have had much difficulty in finding new and comparable career
opportunities.
On a good note, there has been significant job growth in our ever changing
economy at the same time these other changes have occurred. Our changing
economy also has created many emerging businesses and technologies. In the
last ten years, and even at a faster rate now, businesses employing less
than 100 employees have generated some 24 million new jobs. This is a
major area of opportunities that often many job hunters ignore completely.
As our economy and the Atlanta job market adjusts to all these changes, anyone
engaged in a career change or search for a better job often needs help to
understand how to effectively navigate through this fast changing world to
continue their career growth. In the future, these changes will come
faster not slower and re-careering is going to be commonplace. No matter
how comfortable your job may now seem, it’s not if you will be affected,
it’s when. You need to be prepared for these changes.
